Unlock Your Creative Genius on Evia: A Generative Writing Retreat with David Elliott: May 10-17 2025
Escape to a sun-drenched Greek island for an unforgettable writing retreat led by award-winning author David Elliott. In a setting where myth and reality intertwine, explore the ancient tales anew with generative prompts, lively personalized workshops, and expertly guided tours to archaeological sites that have their beginnings in some of the richest stories in Western civilization. Over the course of this transformative week, you'll explore the rich tapestry of Greek mythology, craft your own interpretations of classic stories, and refine your skills under David's expert guidance.
Excursions
Mara Kinari, one of the most sought-after guides in Greece, will lead our excursions to Chalcis, Eretria, Delphi, and, if possible, Amarynthos, where a temple to Artemis has recently been discovered. With her vast knowledge of Greek history and culture, she’ll share the stories of these ancient places to inspire our own tellings.
All excursions will be half-day, with the exception of Delphi.
Lodging
Guests will enjoy the hospitality of the family-run Argo Hotel, with options for comfortable single and double rooms. Wake up to views of the garden or sea from your private balcony. The Argo is wheelchair accessible.
Writing Time
You'll have plenty of time for writing and reflection in Evia. Surrounded by other writers of all genres, you’ll enjoy thoughtful and generative conversations and opportunities for sharing your writing, and for some time alone, you can always find a spot by the pool or walk down to the beach for inspiration.
Instruction
Relying on twenty years of mentoring writers in Lesley University’s MFA program, David will facilitate workshops that focus on the art of retelling. Relevant to writers of all genres, each workshop will conclude with generative prompts. During our time in Greece, David will also be available for a 30 min. consultation with each participant.
Meals
You'll start each day with Argo's garden-fresh, award-winning breakfast buffet, and we'll gather in the evening for an authentic Greek dinner with local ingredients. (Vegetarian and vegan options available for breakfast and dinner.) Lunch will be on your own, and you can choose from a la carte items at the hotel restaurant or travel into town for a selection of local eateries.

From your arrival in Athens, all transportation will be provided, including airport shuttles*, excursions, and any other necessary travel.
